Meet the Author: Carol Williams and Alison Woods

You've seen their names on the spines of books, now find out how these authors turned their ideas into published works!

Local teen-fiction writers Carol Lynch Williams (The Chosen One) and Alison Woods (By the Blood of the Witches) will each read from their work and answer any questions you might have about their books or their writing process. A perfect opportunity for young writers, aspiring writers, and teen-fiction fans. Presented in partnership with the Salt Lake City Arts Council and the Utah Division of Arts and Museums.

About the Authors

Carol Williams, who grew up in Florida and now lives in Utah, is an award-winning novelist with seven children of her own, including six daughters.  She has an MFA in writing for children and young adults from Vermont College, and won the prestigious PEN/Phyllis Naylor Working Writer Fellowship. The Chosen One was named one of the ALA’s Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers and Best Books for Young Adult Readers; it won the Whitney and the Association of Mormon Letters awards for the best young adult novel of the year; and was featured on numerous lists of recommended YA fiction. Carol’s other novels include Glimpse, Miles From Ordinary, The
Haven, Waiting, Signed, Skye Harper, and the Just in Time series.

Alison Woods, who was the 2017 first-place winner in Category D: Young Adult Book of the Utah Original Writing Competition, with her manuscript By the Blood of the Witches. Alison is a Professor of Physiology and a mother to six who lives with her family in the shadows of the Wasatch mountain range. She loves mountains, Halloween, lightning, purple, reading, video games, and is embarrassingly overenthusiastic about all things that can be marketed as “Geek” or “Kawaii.” She also really loves mythology and fairy tales and is extremely excited to be involved in the Fairy Tale StoryVerse with Fiction Vortex. Alison won the 2017 Utah Division of Arts and Museums’ Original Writing Competition (young adult category). She wants everyone to know that magic exists throughout our world and within you!
